Saville Audio Visual has completed the installation of a comprehensive range of AV/IT and videoconferencing facilities in the first phase of the newly created Bristol & Bath Science Park. The development provides a dynamic new hub for the region’s science and technology businesses, connecting entrepreneurs, fledgling businesses and established brands with vital investors, academia and design facilities.

Forum Area
The Forum area is a large multipurpose open space designed to handle audiences of up to 600. To cope with the naturally bright environment, the AV facilities include a Christie large venue projector, set up in rear projection mode projecting on to a 3m by 1.8m screen. Audio is delivered via Q-Flex line array speakers, determined by the requirement to cater for both voice and programme sound and to cope with the nature of the space – an atrium area with three large glass surfaces. All source inputs, including multiple floor box positions and an equipment rack are distributed and controlled via a Crestron Digital Media system.

Conference Rooms
Saville equipped eight conference rooms with wall-mounted flat HD screens and a Polycom HDX videoconferencing endpoint, operated via a Crestron Digital Media input and control panel. This system also caters for single distribution within each individual room.

Three of the rooms can be opened up to create one large theatre space for up to 60 people, which also utilises SMART Interactive hardware as part of the overall system. Each screen can display the same source or show independent images, employing multi-touch control via SMART MeetingPro software. All the systems are fully automated via Crestron Digital Media for control and distribution. Crestron Roomview and Roombooking facilities are also installed for remote support, diagnostics and monitoring of the systems in real time.

Conferencing & Collaboration
The Polycom conferencing systems allow teams to enjoy collaborative work sessions from different locations. They enable people to share information, concepts and plans or discuss and brainstorm ideas on interactive whiteboards or interactive displays – either in scheduled meetings or informal break-out sessions, regardless of where they are based.

Bonnie Dean, chief executive of the Science Park, said: “This conferencing system offers a much more engaging way to connect with colleagues in different locations, resulting in more productive and collaborative sessions. It also means people don’t have to travel, which makes for a greener way of working too. We hope that people from across the area, as well as businesses based at the Park, will take full advantage of this technology.”

eBay is the world’s largest online marketplace with around 97 million active users globally and over 17 million unique visitors to eBay.co.uk every month. Saville Audio Visual has installed videoconferencing at eBay offices throughout Europe.

Far from an online auction house, ebay.co.uk currently has over 40 million live listings on the UK site, with fixed price goods accounting for the majority of items sold globally. Sellers include 180,000 registered businesses and over 100 high-street retailers and brands who use eBay as an additional sales channel for fashion, home & garden and consumer electronics products.

Saville was commissioned to upgrade and extend the company’s communications by installing Lifesize HD conferencing systems in six different offices at the UK headquarters in Richmond, Surrey and throughout the network of eBay offices in Europe. The systems comprise Lifesize Room 220 packages with dual 55” NEC Full HD screens, Polycom microphones and Crestron controllers.

The aim of the upgrade is to increase the company’s VC capabilities with dual screen operability at all sites, via a compact, efficient and aesthetically pleasing solution. The selected system is designed to be future proof and flexible, providing an easy-to-use experience, including bespoke training sessions. In addition the systems provide remote access and operation of all main equipment items and control systems and the initial feedback has been extremely good, reporting that the Saville solution is “really making a difference to the VC experience in Europe”.

The bespoke programming layout and configuration Saville has carried out for the APC controllers has been very well received, resulting in a request to re-configure all the company’s existing units. To date, systems have been rolled out at eBay offices in Berlin, Paris, Zurich, Bern and Amsterdam. Further installations are scheduled at these sites, followed by Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Ukraine, Israel and Turkey.

The new brand was launched to the public in Glasgow’s George Square by former AG Barr chairman Robin Barr, who donned protective gloves to pull the first-ever bottle out of a furnace to present to the gathered crowd.

The Saville team provided full project support for the outdoor event, from the design process through to production and delivery. The facilities included staging, truss and a PA rig for the 300-plus audience, plus smoke machines and external and internal lighting to create the realistic furnace effects.

The spicy version of the more familiar fizzy drink will be on sale alongside ‘trick or treat’ packs to coincide with Halloween.

Saville business manager for Scotland, Chris Lawson said: “Designing the furnace and sourcing moulded brick wall panelling was a bit out of the ordinary, but the event came together well. We had the usual logistics and health and safety issues to deal with, but it was pleasing to play a part in a successful launch.”

On behalf of AG Barr, Kathryn Dunlop of Burt Greener Communications said: ”Thank you so much for all your help over the last month – everyone is so pleased with how it went and you all did such a good job.”
