The Client

Thomas Cook Group plc is one of the world’s leading leisure travel groups, with sales of £7.8 billion in the year ended 30 September 2015. Employing more than 21,000 and operating across fifteen source markets, the company ranks as number one or two by revenue in all its core markets. Founded in 1841, the company has recently celebrated their 175th anniversary.

The Brief

In 2016, the company committed to invest in a platform of new communication technology throughout its office in Peterborough, home to more than 1000 staff. The contract to design and install a complete range of AV, IT and collaboration systems in more than thirty rooms was awarded to Saville Audio Visual. 

The objective was to provide simple, versatile presentation systems and collaborative solutions that would be easy to use for personnel at all levels – as intuitive as the personal technology in everyday use. 

The Outcome

Delivered on time and on budget, the installation has addressed and dealt with all the complex communication needs of a global business enterprise. 

From every aspect, the solutions have been designed to manage the distribution, switching, scaling and display of video, audio and interactive content at every level. With simple and intuitive control, the technology provides Thomas Cook personnel with the confidence to communicate.

The Auditorium

The Solution

Saville’s long experience was instrumental in the choice of appropriate, future-proofed technology to meet the diverse and demanding audio visual requirements presented by Thomas Cook. 


Thirteen 43” Saville HD Pro2 displays greet visitors in the café and the IT support area, with content delivered via OneLAN signage players. Facilities in the Contact Centre, include over forty 43” LED signage screens.


Accommodating up to two hundred people, the Thomas Cook Auditorium is designed as a flexible, modular space to host meetings, receptions and events or provide hospitality space for staff or visiting guests. The main display is provided by twin four-screen videowalls using Samsung 55” HD screens. A Barco ClickShare system allows two users to connect wirelessly and display their content.

Meeting & Training Rooms

In an extensive suite of meeting rooms with diverse presentation applications, it was important to provide a coordinated and consistent range of control systems. 

A key factor was the decision to equip the spaces with simple, comprehensive switching facilities utilising Extron Cable Cubby interfaces. 

Careful consideration was given to the choice of display solutions for different meeting rooms, especially the five Academy training rooms. 

These important rooms provide inspirational key spaces for training and induction sessions and feature impressive 84” LED 4K direct backlight screens with twin 10W speakers and tilting smart wall mounts.  

Two of the large Academy Training Rooms are designed to be modular and flexible, with a partition wall that opens to create a large single space. Both areas feature 84” LED displays that can be combined when the room is opened.

Boardroom & VC rooms

In the Boardroom, the Crisis Management Centre and the Videoconferencing Suite, Extron CrossPoint matrix switchers were specified. These provide complete AV system integration and control, with 4K scaling, audio DSP and reliable digital video switching. 

Polycom RealPresence VC systems are installed in each area, with EagleEye auto focusing dual camera systems and sophisticated ClearOne ceiling microphone arrays. 

Twin 65” LED screens are fitted in the Directors office and 55” screens plus an interactive SMART Kapp display in the Crisis Management Centre. Other technology includes Extron colour touch screen control panels.

Carefully designed furniture and cabling provision in the Crisis Management Centre creates a versatile, flexible space that can be used length-ways or sideways.

Training Hub

Huddle Areas

On each floor, versatile Team Huddle areas provide informal space for impromptu meetings, briefings and learning, to empower staff to participate and engage in effective collaboration. 

In each, the focal point is an interactive SMART kapp iQ 65” ultra HD display, enabling participants to share notes using their phones, tablets and laptops. At the end of a session the notes may be emailed to attendees.
