Situated in Largs, less than an hour’s drive from Glasgow, the new Sportscotland National Sports Training Centre Inverclyde is the first centre of its kind in the UK, providing world class indoor and outdoor sports facilities including sixty on-site bedrooms. It provides accommodation for users of all levels of physical and sensory ability, from schools and clubs to performance athletes and the local community.
We were really excited to be awarded the contract to equip the entire centre with state-of-the-art audio visual and collaborative facilities following a detailed design brief to deliver a fully integrated, fit for purpose solution.
The key element of the site-wide solution is a Tripleplay IPTV system with a network of NEC display monitors. This has the flexibility to provide IPTV feeds into all sixty bedrooms as well as digital signage across the communal areas and in the fitness centre. Here the gym machines are able to pick up the multicast stream from the Tripleplay system.
The system was primarily chosen because of its future-proof scalability, with the potential to display live streaming of activities from the exterior training pitches.
Visitors arriving in the Reception Area are greeted by a striking video wall display using NEC 46” professional videowall panels built for 24/7 operation, with full HD resolution and automatic on/off switching depending on time of day.
Further prominent 55” NEC displays are installed throughout the Bar area, the Cardio Suite, the Gymnasium and the Multipurpose Area, each connected to a Tripleplay Amino player by HDMI.
The main meeting room features a ceiling mounted 5400 lumens Panasonic HD projector plus a 3-metre tensioned electric screen with two 55” NEC HD repeater screen monitors. System operation is provided via a Saville OneTouch control panel built into a Quadra Academy lectern. This also accommodates a Biamp Nexia presentation mixer, Extron audio amplifier feeding twelve ceiling speakers plus an induction loop system.
The three smaller public meeting rooms are equipped with 55” NEC HD monitor screen, Extron audio amplifier, a OneTouch control panel and a Saville scaler/switcher to easily handle all the varying AV sources. The meeting rooms are designed to maximise the advantages of new technologies like Barco ClickShare. This greatly improves meetings, as people presenting content from their own portable devices are able to enjoy wireless screen sharing.
Keeping with the ideology of accessibility, the rooms are easily managed thanks to a state-of-the-art room booking system integrated via the Tripleplay network.
Speaking about the installation process delivered by the Saville systems engineering and programming team, Sportscotland’s Head of Office Support Services, Craig Worsley, said: “I found Saville great to work with from the very start. The quality of their initial tender submission was excellent and when they started on site, our project manager, Andrew, ensured the install was carried out to a very high standard and reflected the initial design."
Customers have already been commenting on our videowall in the reception area, as well as the digital signage around the site. The Tripleplay system gives us great ease of control over our signage and IPTV systems in one centralised system and it’s great to work with.
Sports Minister Aileen Campbell commented: "The sportscotland National Sports Training Centre Inverclyde will be an exceptional facility for sportspeople from all across the country, as well as having strong community links here in Largs. Scottish Government is very pleased and proud to have invested in Inverclyde, which is another example of the wide range of facilities we now have the length and breadth of the country
