Located in the up and coming South Bank area close to Leeds city centre, Duke Studios is a collaborative work space that is a exciting exception to the norm. With a company motto that heralds people first, business second, Duke provides a range of creative workspaces, services and facilities that flourish using a unique co-worker model.

This innovative venture is home to an eclectic range of creatives that include animators, web developers, marketers, filmmakers, DJ’s and producers to name but a few. Within this creative powerhouse, individuals and teams have the opportunity to share, grow and collaborate in a perfect environment designed to nurture new talent.

The brainchild of Laura Wellington and James Abbott Donnelly who founded the studios in 2011, the centre is rapidly attracting numerous awards for their unique approach to creating a creative hub that facilitates knowledge exchange, encourages networking and sparks collaboration.

As well as providing workspace facilities, the venue also offers four bespoke and quirky meeting and event spaces for hire. With a central location, there is stiff competition from the more established hotel venues prompting the entrepreneurial duo to seek assistance from fellow Yorkshire based audio visual specialists, Saville Audio Visual, to provide new integrated AV facilities that would put them in a class of their own.

The four spaces which each follow the creative theme and are the perfect choice for those looking for somewhere completely different to hold their event. With capacities that range from 6 to 250 they are suited to a wide variety of event types. Alongside the Conservatory, the Draper room and the imaginatively titled the Not Bored Room (there is a clue in the name) is the Event Space.

“Our Event Space is a blank canvas for a large range of events that we curate ourselves or play host to. These can range from conferences, talks, product launches to wedding receptions, pop up restaurants, film screenings, gigs and club nights” explained co-founder James Donnelly.

Featuring three structural columns across a long wall, the space offered a challenge to the team who wanted to provide a super flexible projection experience. The solution lay in three bespoke manufactured, borderless motorised screens, designed to fit perfectly in-between the columns, providing the option of a seamless widescreen set-up or multiple individual screens. This allowed the room to retain its industrial feel when not in use, something a fixed LED videowall would not allow.

“The flexibility the arrangement offers means we can provide clients with a choice of layouts to suit their particular event” continues James.

The solution is completed with three Saville high power 6K, ceiling-mounted laser projectors, with input sources controlled via a 6x6 matrix switcher, allowing any input to be on any screen or across all three, intuitively controlled from an App running on an iPad. The system is the perfect visual accompaniment to the hi-spec in-house club audio system. See them in action:

“The new technology has allowed us to dramatically improve our multi-function space, elevating it to a new level, giving us a whole range of possibilities. People already love the look, atmosphere and approach we have. We now have the high quality technology to match” concludes James.

As the first phase of the technology update, the Event space will soon be joined by upgraded facilities in the other three spaces early in 2018.
